SYDIC is pleased to announce the En-Roads: a Climate Action Simulation event to be held on September 21 and 22.
The event, which in addition to the All4Climate sponsorship has also received, among others, the sponsorship of MIMS – Ministry of Sustainable Infrastructure and Mobility, ASVIS, RUS, INDIRE, and EUCLIPA, aims to simulate a real UN climate negotiation, in order to bring out not only the difficulties related to understanding the best policy decisions to be implemented but also the difficulties that emerge in a negotiation in which different groups manifest objectives often even opposite. The results of the negotiations will then be provided as elements of operational policy input to the En-Roads simulator, created by Climate Interactive, which will show the projection of the impacts resulting from the application of such policies (in terms of global temperature increase) in the next 100 years.
The objective of the Workshop is therefore to improve on the one hand the awareness of young participants (between 50 and 150 young environmental activists of the association Youth4Climate are expected at the event) about what really determines the dynamics of climate change, and on the other hand to experience the real difficulties that may arise during the negotiations of a typical UN Climate Summit (such as the next COP26). The knowledge and awareness developed during the first afternoon of the workshop will finally help the young participants, divided into working groups, to develop concrete proposals (video appeals lasting 2′ each) that can (if the Ministry deems it appropriate) be potentially presented to all Youth4Climate youth and ministers who will participate in the pre-COP and, therefore, in COP26 in Glasgow.
An introductory panel will be held at the opening of the event on September 21 at 2:00 pm via online streaming. This session will be attended by some top-level speakers representing leading national and international institutions and organizations. We will ask our panelists to comment on the contribution and suggestions that the institutions and organizations represented can give to young participants who are preparing to follow and support the next international climate negotiations, especially in view of the complexity of both the issue and the negotiation process.
