English version:

SYDIC is eager to announce its newest partnership in the recently launched European+ program project “BRinging STEM into Active agING” (BRAIN), in which SYDIC as one of the partners, will be responsible for the development of specific thematic areas.

The total duration of the project will be 2 years and will involve the adult population, primarily the ones pertaining to the third age group, in studies of STEM subjects through non-formal learning methods. The overall aim is to disseminate a scientific approach and enable the involved participants to become advocates capable of disseminating and teaching those approaches among their fellows, thus in turn pursuing also an outcome of social inclusion.

During the 24 months of the project, a training model and specific contents on STEM topics will be defined, in order to create case studies based on everyday life, that will facilitate the understanding of the importance of the scientific applications and implications.

Among the various activities, SYDIC will be responsible of introducing a Systems Thinking perspective in the proposed case studies (typical everyday situations that demonstrate one or more STEM concepts as pervading our lives): these will be realised as small simulation “pills” by means of the use of the System Dynamics modelling & simulation methodology, a sound scientific approach intrinsically apt at describing complex situations/systems. SYDIC will also aggregate the developed materials into a toolkit which will be the basis for the following training activities.

Furthermore, the project will also develop an app, called the “game app”, in order to facilitate the dissemination of the main concepts, by leveraging on the approach of gamification to further disseminate widely the thematics of STEM subjects.

The project officially started on December 1st, 2020 and is currently in the very first stages of its development.
