Cari amici e colleghi,

A presto,
- L'Esecutivo del SYDIC

--- CALL FOR PAPERS ---

2010 European Academy of Management - EURAM 2010
Rome, Italy - May 19 - 22, 2010

CONFERENCE HOST: University of Rome "Tor Vergata"
CO-SUPPORTED BY SYDIC - SYstem Dynamics Italian Chapter (www.systemdynamics.it)

PROGRAM:
Following on the heels of several corporate scandals, the current financial crisis has destroyed public confidence in management theories and practices. It has shown the failure of rules, systems and processes to effectively control and guide public and private organizations, leaving space for managers’ opportunistic behavior. It is important to analyze in depth what happened in practice, advance high quality theoretical and empirical research, opening a new season for the international scientific debate. The new findings must improve managerial practices with respect to the interests of stakeholders and society at large.

We invite you to join us in Rome for EURAM 2010 to debate how to go back to older approaches and how to stimulate their rethinking. Our goal is to start a serene and constructive debate on the basis of our activities as scholars, recognizing our responsibilities in the actual critical situation and our duties to try to find an exit path dismantling the fortress of the dominant thought of the shareholder value and the short term orientation of the prevalent managerial and financial models.

Submissions are encouraged on all the topics in the call for papers (http://www.euram2010.org/r/default.asp?iId=EGKLJF , see also the full list of tracks). We anticipate strong interest in the conference main theme, but we specifically activated two tracks on applications of Systems Thinking and System Dynamics to management topics. Specifically, there will be a subtrack of the Public Management track (see track no. 14 - http://www.euram2010.org/userfiles/file ... %20bis.pdf) named "System thinking & system dynamics in the public sector", plus a whole track of the Special Interest Group on Research Methods and Practice named "Strategy Practice and Research: the role of qualitative and quantitative modeling" (track no. 13 - http://www.euram2010.org/userfiles/file ... quatro.pdf). Around 4 to 8 papers are expected to be accepted in the subtrack on SD/ST of Track 14 on Public Management (specifically, applications of SD/ST to public management issues) while 15 to 20 papers are expected to be accepted for the Modeling track (Track 13).

Also, note that two special sessions based on System Dynamics and System Thinking methodologies will take place during the conference. The first one is a special session on Climate Change (see the related session "Copenaghen Climate Exercise", performed by John Sterman during the ISDC2009 in Albuquerque), titled "Experiencing simulation-supported strategy formation for the biggest challenge of all - climate change", chaired by Kim Warren and co-chaired by Stefano Armenia (http://www.euram2010.org/userfiles/file ... quatro.pdf, page 2), which will be part of track 13). The second session will be likely held before EURAM will start (a first tentative schedule sets it to the morning of may 19th) and it will be a workshop of presentation of the System Dynamics and System Thinking disciplines to italian institutional stakeholders, in order to promote the methodologies by presenting some national and international best practice/applications in the fields of economics, sustainable development, environment, health, public management. The workshop will be promoted by SYDIC (SYstem Dynamics Italian Chapter) and hosted by Tor Vergata University under the patronage of EURAM (however, please note that attending this workshop does not entitle attendees to freely take part to EURAM sessions, too). Free materials will be distributed during this workshop.

A sampling of all conference topics to be addressed can be found on the conference website. The program schedule will also include exhibits, symposia, panel discussions, special sessions and a student colloquium.
